Helpers’ Starter Course

Detailed description of class:
Our students will learn about planning a menu, and time plans so all the food is hot cooked and ready to serve at one time. We will review basic hygiene making sure they know about food handling and food storage. Keep food diaries so they become aware of what their families are eating, follow recipes and understand more about food grouping.
Menu for class:
Lesson one: Food hygiene, and storage. Food by the region and food grouping. Following a recipe and hands-on preparing pastry.
Lesson two: Basic tomato sauce, basil pesto white sauce, using pastry to make a quiche Lorraine.
Lesson three: Meat cooking. Roasting a chicken three ways. Roast vegetable salad, new potato salad. Sponge cake.
